Certification and Accreditation

CBLPath, Inc. is a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certified laboratory.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulates all laboratory testing (except research) performed on humans in the U.S. through CLIA.

Congress passed the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments in 1988 establishing minimum quality standards for all laboratory testing to ensure the accuracy, reliability and timeliness of patient test results regardless of where the test was performed. A laboratory is defined as any facility which performs laboratory testing on specimens derived from humans for the purpose of providing information for the diagnosis, prevention, treatment of disease, or impairment of, or assessment of health.

CBLPath, Inc. is accredited by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), part of an exclusive group of more than 6,000 laboratories worldwide that have met the CAP accreditation criteria — rigorous laboratory standards designed to help ensure quality patient care.

The College of American Pathologists is the world’s largest association composed exclusively of pathologists, serving nearly 16,000 physician members and the laboratory community. The CAP accreditation program is considered the global “gold standard” for laboratory quality assurance. For further information, visit the CAP Web site at http://www.cap.org/
