Rana S. Hoda, MD, FIAC

Director of Cytopathology      

Dr. Rana S. Hoda is board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology. Her primary clinical focus is cytopathology with special expertise in fine needle aspiration, urinary and liquid based cytology. She trained in Anatomic Pathology at North Shore University Hospital and Lenox Hill Hospital, which are both affiliated with Cornell University Medical College. Subsequently, she underwent a fellowship in Oncologic Surgical Pathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY with several outstanding oncological pathologists including Drs. Juan Rosai and Paul Peter Rosen. The following year, she did a fellowship in Cytopathology at Montefiore Medical Center - Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, NY under the guidance of Dr. Leopold G. Koss, one of the pioneers of cytopathology. She served as a Lecturer of Pathology at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia. Following this, she served as Assistant, Associate and Professor of Pathology, Director of Cytopathology and Director of Cytopathology Fellowship Training Program at three major academic centers including Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) at Charleston, University of Rochester and Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC)-New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Dr. Hoda has published more than 100 scientific papers, several chapters and three text books including books on urinary cytology and liquid-based preparations. She is on the editorial board of several cytopathology journals including Diagnostic Cytopathology, Journal of American Society of Cytopathology and Cytojournal. Dr. Hoda directed annual cytopathology educational conferences at MUSC and WCMC from 2000-2016. She is active on the regional, national and international lecture circuit. She continues to lecture at various pathology meetings; including American Society of Cytopathology (ASC), United States & Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), College of American Pathologists (CAP) and International Academy of Cytopathology; and has participated in educational conferences in several countries. Dr. Hoda is an active member of ASC, USCAP, ASCP, CAP and the New York Pathological Society.

Walter Blumenfeld, MD

Dr. Walter Blumenfeld is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology as well as cytopathology. He received his M.D. degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed residency training in anatomic pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of California – San Francisco where he was Chief Resident, followed by a fellowship in microbiology. Prior to joining CBLPath, Dr. Blumenfeld was Associate Professor of Clinical Pathology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and Director of Cytopathology at Winthrop University Hospital. He has published 33 papers as well as several book chapters and is currently a reviewer for The Journal of Diagnostic Cytopathology. Dr. Blumenfeld is an active member of the American Society of Cytopathology, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the New York Pathological Society, and the College of American Pathologists.

Antonio Macias, M.D.

Dr. Antonio Macias is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology. He received his M.D. degree from the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes in Aguascalientes, Mexico, followed by an internship in internal medicine at Miguel Hidalgo Hospital in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Subsequently, he completed his anatomic and clinical pathology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center where he served as Chief Resident. After his residency, Dr. Macias completed fellowships in oncologic surgical pathology and cytopathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center under renowned pathologist Dr. Marc Rosenblum. After his fellowships, Dr. Macias served as Attending Surgical Pathologist, Cytopathologist and on the Pathology Residency Program committee at Mount Sinai Roosevelt Hospital in New York. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, such as The American Journal of Surgical Pathology and the Journal of Cytology and Histology, and has presented at national and international conferences. Dr. Maciasis a member of the College of American Pathologists and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists.

Vildan Manzo, M.D.

Dr. Vildan Manzo is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology. Her area of expertise includes fine needle aspiration cytology and surgical pathology of head and neck, breast, gastrointestinal and genitourinary tract. She trained in anatomic and clinical pathology at North Shore University Hospital affiliated with Cornell University Medical College and also at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in New York City. She had her cytopathology training at North Shore University Hospital, Saint Vincent’s Hospital, and at New York Hospital. She is presently working in conjunction with radiologists performing fine needle aspiration biopsies. Prior to this she worked as a Medical Director and Laboratory Director in offices that specialized in gastrointestinal pathology in New York City. After her residency, she has worked as an assistant professor of pathology at New York Medical College, Lincoln Campus. Prior to her pathology training she worked in New York Hospital as a research assistant focusing on Cerebrospinal Fluid Absorptive Pathways, Hydrocephalus, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and CSF flow and production. Dr. Manzo has completed her Medical school training in Aegean (Ege)
University Medical School in Turkey. She has given various lectures and conferences in pathology throughout her career. She is also an avid athlete and frequently competes in sporting events. Dr. Manzo is an active member of CAP and the New York
Pathological Society.

Samina Nur, M.D., FCAP

Dr. Samina Nur is board certified in anatomic pathology and cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology. She received her M.D. degree from Rawalpindi Medical College, University of Punjab in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Subsequently, she completed a fellowship in hematopathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, also located in Rawalpindi. Dr. Nur completed her residency in Anatomic Pathology followed by a fellowship in Cytopathology at University Hospital, Westchester Medical Center – New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, where she also served as Chief Resident. She has held several positions throughout her medical career including Assistant Professor of Hematology and Associate Professor of Pathology at Rawalpindi Medical College, and later, Head of the Department of Hematology at Rawalpindi General Hospital. Prior to her arrival at CBLPath, Dr. Nur served as Assistant Professor of Pathology at New York Medical College where she remained an active member of the teaching faculty. She has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals as well as presented at national and international forums. Dr. Nur is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and a member of the American Society of Cytopathology, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.

Hossein Yazdi, M.D.

Dr. Hossein Yazdi is board certified in cytopathology, anatomic pathology and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Tehran. He then completed his residency in pathology at the University of Mississippi. Subsequently, Dr. Yazdi completed a fellowship in cytopathology as well as a fellowship in surgical pathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Prior to his arrival at CBLPath, Dr. Yazdi served as the Director of Cytopathology Service and a member of the attending staff at The Ottawa Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario. He has published more than 80 articles in peer-reviewed journals on cytopathology and surgical pathology of the thyroid gland, breast and genitourinary system. He also co-authored the
book Guides to Clinical Aspiration Biopsy, Immunocytochemistry and Electron Microscopy and authored the chapter Genitourinary Cytology in the book The Value and Limitations of Cytologic Examination, Clinics in Laboratory Medicine.
Dr. Yazdi is the recipient of numerous awards, including the M. Orizaga Award for excellence in resident teaching and the Honorary Membership of the Canadian Society of Cytopathology, which is awarded to members who have been recognized as leaders in the field of cytopathology in Canada. Dr. Yazdi is a sought after lecturer in the area of cytopathology, having conducted more than 120 presentations at several national and international conferences. While at the University of Ottawa, Dr. Yazdi served as the Program Director, Anatomical and General Pathology Residency Training Programs, Department
of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Co-Director of the Spring Pathology Course. He is a reviewer for Annals of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the journals Diagnostic Cytopathology, Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Cancer. Additionally, he was Chairman of the Canadian Society of Cytopathology and a panel member for the Canadian Society of Cytopathology’s Practice Guidelines for Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology of the Thyroid and the revision of Canadian Society of Cytopathology: Guidelines for Practice and Quality Assurance in Cytopathology. Dr.
Yazdi is a member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the American Society of Cytopathology, the Papanicolaou Society of Cytopathology, the Canadian Association of Pathologists, and the New York Pathological Society. Dr. Yazdi is a Professor of Pathology at New York Medical College.
